Our verdict

Discount Electronics suits US buyers after a Windows laptop, desktop, gaming PC or mini PC with a 30 days return window, from a store trading since 1997. Prices start at $149, and the 1 year warranty is the part to budget around.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Entry price of $149 covers laptop, desktop and gaming pc, so laptops, desktops, gaming PCs, mini PCs and tablets all start from the same published floor.
  • Returns run 30 days, which places the store 3 of 80 on that measure.
  • Memory on custom builds reaches 32 GB, with graphics from nvidia, amd and intel on offer, so a buyer can specify the card.
  • Support runs on phone, email and chat, so phone, email and chat are all available.

Cons

  • Warranty cover runs 1 year, level with the 1 median for electronics stores, so a longer term has to be arranged separately.
  • Windows is the only operating system listed, so buyers after macOS or Chrome OS hardware have to look past this store.
  • The category mix stops at computers and refurbished, narrower than Akkuk.hu at computers, phones and audio and Banggood at computers, phones and audio.
  • Monitors carry ips panels, and only 8.3% of the listings we track publish a dead pixel policy.

Who it suits

  • US shoppers who want a Windows machine from computers and refurbished stock, new or refurbished.
  • Gamers building a rig, since graphics from nvidia, amd and intel are on the list and custom builds can be specified.
  • Buyers who weigh a 30 days return window and phone support above a longer warranty.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Not for audio shoppers: JBL lists audio, gaming and refurbished, where Discount Electronics keeps to computers and refurbished.
  • Not for buyers wanting a broad appliance and phone mix alongside computers: Banggood lists computers, phones and audio.

The company behind it

Discount Electronics trades as First E-Commerce, Inc, is headquartered in the United States and has been selling since 1997. That trio is what a buyer checks before reading the small print: a legal name to answer for a claim, a home country that sets delivery and the currency on a quote, and a trading record that starts earlier than most of the newer storefronts in this comparison. Support is the part shoppers touch first, and it runs on phone, email and chat. Phone, email and chat are all listed, so a question before an order and a problem after delivery travel through one set of channels rather than through a handover between departments. For a long-running business, that continuity is the reassuring part. The head office in US frames the practical side of an order: where stock ships from, how a return is handled and which currency a quote lands in. First E-Commerce, Inc is the entity that stands behind a warranty claim, and 1997 is how long it has been doing that work. Readers who weigh trust before price usually ask who is behind the shop and how long it has traded, and both answers sit in the company record.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a computer cost at Discount Electronics?+

Systems start at $149 and the range covers laptop, desktop and gaming pc. Custom Dell builds are available, so a buyer can begin at the entry point and specify a machine rather than take a fixed configuration. The narrow part is the system: Windows is the only operating system listed, which limits how far the comparison stretches.

What else does the store sell beyond computers?+

Categories cover computers and refurbished, with refurbished stock listed alongside new machines, and the product list spans laptop, desktop and gaming pc. For wider ground, Akkuk.hu lists computers, phones and audio and Banggood lists computers, phones and audio, while JBL covers audio, gaming and refurbished.

How long is the return window?+

Returns run 30 days, placing the store 3 of 80 among the brands tracked on that measure. The stated window applies across the computers and refurbished range, so a refurbished machine and a new one sit on the same clock.

How long is the warranty?+

Cover runs 1 year, level with the 1 median across electronics stores. Extended plans are common in the wider market, with 86.2% of our listings offering one, so a longer term is normally a separate purchase.

Where does Discount Electronics sell and ship?+

The store lists US as its only market and is headquartered in the United States. Delivery, warranty handling and the currency on a quote all work from that base, which narrows the appeal to buyers already in the country. The laptop, desktop and gaming pc and computers and refurbished lists are what to weigh against alternatives.

Can I order a custom built machine?+

Build to order is offered, and custom Dell computers or laptops can be specified instead of bought off the shelf. Memory on those builds reaches 32 GB, and graphics options come from nvidia, amd and intel, so the card can be chosen rather than accepted as bundled.

How do I reach support?+

Support runs on phone, email and chat, so phone, email and chat are all listed rather than a single route. A help centre is the most common channel in our wider listings at 96.7%, so self-service documentation is the point worth raising before ordering.

Can I trade in an old computer?+

Trade-in is a mainstream extra in this group, offered by 96.8% of the listings we track. Discount Electronics states computers and refurbished, 30 days returns and $149 entry pricing, so any value for an old machine is a question for its sales team rather than a listed benefit.

How does it score on offer and trust?+

The overall score is 9, split into 9 on offer and 9 on trust. Offer rests on the $149 entry point and the laptop, desktop and gaming pc range, while trust leans on 30 days returns, support on phone, email and chat and a trading history going back to 1997.
