Pros and cons

Pros

  • Entry price of $199.99 keeps a dedicated e-reader or tablet within reach for buyers who do not want to fund a computer.
  • Warranty runs 1 to 2 years, at or above the 1 median in the tablet and e-reader field.
  • Returns run 30 days, and Android on the devices keeps the reading software familiar.
  • Ships to AE, AM and AT, so the range reaches the US, the UK, much of Europe and several Asian markets.

Cons

  • Build to order is no, so the specification is whatever the model ships with rather than a set you choose.
  • Support runs on email, help centre and community, with no phone line among them, so a claim travels by email or a community post.
  • Product types cover tablet and e reader, so a buyer who also needs a laptop has to add Coolblue Belgium or Loop Mobile to the basket.

Who it suits

  • Readers who want a dedicated e-reader or note taking tablet and will settle on Android rather than desktop software.
  • Buyers who want warranty cover of 1 to 2 years and a 30 day return window on a direct store purchase.
  • Shoppers who are happy to reach email, help centre and community rather than a phone line.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Laptop buyers: Loop Mobile covers laptop, desktop and tablet, so a machine for work sits in the same basket.
  • Refurbished buyers: asgoodasnew lists laptop, desktop and tablet, a graded hardware route that BOOX's tablet and e reader range does not cover.
  • Households buying a computer and a reader together: Coolblue Belgium carries laptop, desktop and gaming pc in a single basket.

Core features

BOOX devices come off a standard line rather than a build service, so build to order is no and the specification is set per model rather than chosen at checkout. Memory reaches a ceiling of 6 GB, which suits books, notes and light app work and is a clear limit for heavier multitasking. Cover runs 1 to 2 years depending on the device, and buyers who regret the choice have returns of 30 days to judge the screen, the weight and the battery first.

The company behind it

BOOX is the brand name of ONYX International Inc., based in China and building reading hardware since 2008. The store sells direct, so the warranty and the after sales questions land with the same company that sets the price. Support runs on email, help centre and community, which means the help centre and the community handle most questions while claims travel by email. For a shopper that means researching specifications alone, then following up with a written record if something goes wrong.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a BOOX device cost to start with?+

The cheapest device in the BOOX range is $199.99. That entry point ranks BOOX 15 of 34 brands on starting price, and it covers the tablet and e reader lines. Each device carries its own price tag rather than a plan, so the cost stays the cost at renewal.

What kinds of device does BOOX make?+

The range is tablet and e reader, so BOOX concentrates on reading hardware rather than laptops or desktops. That focus is why the memory ceiling of 6 GB reads as sensible for books and note taking, and why a shopper filling a basket for a computer should look at a broader seller.

What software do BOOX devices run?+

Every device runs Android, the platform 74.1% of brands in this category also run. Android means familiar apps, adjustable text and screen settings, and access to the usual app stores, along with updates pushed to the device the way a phone receives them.

How long is the BOOX warranty?+

Cover runs 1 to 2 years depending on the model, against a median of 1 year across the tablet and e-reader brands tracked here. Claims go through email, help centre and community, so a help centre answer or an email is the route to a repair or a replacement.

Can I send a BOOX device back if I dislike it?+

Returns run 30 days, which leaves time to read with the device properly rather than judge it from the box. That window is the practical answer for anyone weighing a reader against a wider tablet, and it sits alongside warranty cover of 1 to 2 years for faults rather than preferences.

How does BOOX handle support when something goes wrong?+

Support runs on email, help centre and community, which means a help centre, an email address and a community forum. That mix suits quick questions about reading software and settings, and it means ONYX International Inc. is the name behind the warranty, based in China. Claims are easier to settle in writing than in a forum thread.

Can I buy a BOOX device outside its home market?+

BOOX trades as ONYX International Inc. from CN and sells from its own store. Warranty cover of 1 to 2 years comes with a device bought there, and a shopper outside the shipping list deals with the company directly by email rather than a local shop. That works for a straightforward purchase, and is worth weighing if you prefer a local return counter.

Can a BOOX device replace a laptop?+

Not as a computer, though the software helps. Every device runs Android and build to order is no, so the specification is fixed per model. That is a reading and note taking machine with app support, and buyers who need a keyboard and desktop software should start with Loop Mobile or asgoodasnew.
