Pros and cons
Pros
- The range spans laptop, gaming laptop and desktop, so a single maker covers study, work and gaming devices
- Devices run on Windows and chromeos, which serves both Windows buyers and ChromeOS buyers
- A gaming laptop and a gaming PC both appear in the range, so a gamer can pick a portable or a desktop machine without changing maker
- Tablets and Chromebooks sit alongside the PCs, which suits a household mixing a study device with a gaming machine
- Acer is registered in Taiwan and was founded in 1976, so the brand has a long operating history
Cons
- Operating systems are limited to Windows and chromeos, so buyers who need macOS or Linux have to look at another maker
- A mini PC is not among its laptop, gaming laptop and desktop, so shoppers after a very small desktop need a maker whose range lists one
- Chromebooks depend on ChromeOS, part of Windows and chromeos, which suits light work rather than heavy software

Who runs it
Acer trades as Acer Inc. and is registered in Taiwan. The company was founded in 1976, which makes it an established maker rather than a recent entrant. As the operating company behind the brand name, it is the party that stands behind the hardware, its warranty terms and its support. That matters at two points for a shopper: whether the name on the box is the same company that will handle a repair, and whether the brand is still around when a warranty claim comes up. A founding date going back decades gives more confidence on the second point than a newer label would.

Frequently asked questions
What kinds of devices does Acer make?+
Acer lists laptop, gaming laptop and desktop. That is a mixed range rather than a single line, so a shopper can cover study, home and gaming needs with the same maker. Buyers who want gaming hardware only may find a specialist narrower but more focused.
Which operating systems do Acer devices run?+
Acer devices run on Windows and chromeos. Windows covers the standard laptop and desktop market, and ChromeOS covers Chromebooks. No macOS or Linux option appears in that list, so shoppers who rely on either should weigh a different maker.
Who owns Acer and where is it based?+
The company is Acer Inc., registered in Taiwan and founded in 1976. It is a manufacturer of its own devices rather than only a shop reselling other makers. That shape is why a single brand name covers so many device types.
Does Acer sell tablets and Chromebooks?+
Both appear in laptop, gaming laptop and desktop. Tablets and Chromebooks sit alongside the laptops, desktops and gaming PCs, which suits a household combining a study device with a gaming machine. Chromebooks run on ChromeOS, which is part of Windows and chromeos.
Does Acer make mini PCs?+
A mini PC is not among its laptop, gaming laptop and desktop. Laptops, gaming laptops, desktops, gaming PCs, tablets and Chromebooks are the listed types, so the smallest desktop shape is not part of the range. Scan lists laptop, gaming laptop and desktop if that form factor matters.
Is Acer a good choice for gaming?+
A gaming laptop and a gaming PC both appear in laptop, gaming laptop and desktop, so gaming buyers can choose a portable or a desktop version from the same maker. Acer devices run on Windows and chromeos, and the gaming side of the range uses the Windows option in that list.
How does Acer compare with a gaming specialist?+
A specialist such as CyberPowerPC lists laptop, gaming laptop and desktop, a tighter set of gaming hardware. Acer lists laptop, gaming laptop and desktop, which mixes gaming machines with study and everyday devices. A buyer who only games may prefer the specialist, while a household gets more from the wider range.
Can I get a Chromebook and a laptop from the same brand?+
Both Chromebook and laptop are listed in laptop, gaming laptop and desktop. Chromebooks run on ChromeOS, part of Windows and chromeos, and the rest of the range runs on Windows. That split makes a mixed household setup easier to keep under a single maker and a single support contact.
