Pros and cons
Pros
- The same controller covers phone, console and PC play, so separate gear for each device is not needed.
- Wireless play is built in, so you can put the controller down and lift it again mid-session without stopping.
- The controller plays handheld on your phone or wirelessly on any screen, so the same purchase covers either use.
- Battery life of 40 hours leaves room for a long evening without a recharge stop.
- Cover runs 1 year from the date of retail purchase through a Backbone authorized reseller.
Cons
- Cover runs 1 year from purchase at an authorized reseller, so it is a brief window to lean on if something goes wrong.
- Support runs in writing rather than by voice, with a help centre, an email address and a community channel as the route to an answer.
- Terms and warranty are issued by a company based in the United States, so read them before buying from another market.
Who it suits
- Players whose library spans phone, console and PC, who want to stop buying gear per device.
- People who prefer wireless sessions, since wireless play is built in.
- Long-session players who would rather not recharge mid-evening, with 40 hours of battery life.
Who should look elsewhere
- Buyers who want long cover, since the warranty runs 1 year.
- Readers who want a wider gaming gear range from a single maker, who may prefer to start with CORSAIR or Logitech G.
Core features
Backbone builds controllers for people who already own their games. Wireless play comes built in, so you can set the controller down and pick it up again without stopping, and the same unit plays handheld on your phone or wirelessly on any screen. The battery figure shapes a long evening. Backbone quotes 40 hours of battery life, which leaves headroom to finish a session without stopping to recharge. Cover is the briefer part of the story. The warranty runs 1 year from the date of retail purchase through a Backbone authorized reseller, so buying from an authorized reseller keeps the start of the cover straightforward.
The company behind it
Backbone is Backbone Labs, Inc., a company based in the United States, and its name is the one on the terms, the warranty and the support pages rather than a separate trading name. A warranty question therefore goes to the company that builds the hardware instead of an intermediary. Help is offered through a help centre for written questions, an email address for direct contact, and a community channel where problems get shared. That mix suits people who would rather look up an answer or write one down than book a call, and it is worth weighing early if speaking to someone matters to you.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a Backbone controller cost?+
Backbone One - USB-C is listed at €87.95 on the collection page. The range also includes the Backbone Pro, which the same page quotes at a higher figure and pairs with wireless play. The entry point therefore buys the USB-C controller, and the spend climbs from there.
How long does the battery last?+
Backbone quotes 40 hours of battery life, and wireless play is built in. Those hours matter most when you play handheld on your phone or wirelessly on any screen, because a mid-session recharge is what you are avoiding. Sit down for a long evening and the figure sets your expectations.
How long is the warranty?+
Cover runs 1 year, counted from retail purchase through a Backbone authorized reseller. Buying from an authorized reseller is therefore part of keeping the clock straightforward. For a controller you travel with, weigh that window against how long you expect to keep it in service.
Who makes Backbone and where is it based?+
The hardware comes from Backbone Labs, Inc., based in the United States, and that same entity is the counterparty in the terms. A warranty or returns question is handled by the company that builds the controller rather than by the shop that sold it to you.
How do I get help from Backbone?+
Help comes through email, help centre and community. That means written answers you can search, an email address for direct contact and a community channel where problems get shared. It suits readers who would rather look up an answer or write one down than book a call.
Who is Backbone for?+
It suits players whose games sit on a phone, a console and a PC, and who would rather play wireless than go looking for a lead. Battery life of 40 hours covers a long evening. It convinces less if long warranty cover is what you are buying for.
