Our verdict

Victrola suits buyers who want turntables and portable speakers from a single US brand, with products starting at $59.99 and shipping inside US. A returns window of 30 days and phone support soften the narrow range, though Edifier and JBL cover more categories.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Portable speakers start at $59.99, a low way into the range.
  • The turntables, speakers and portable speakers range keeps a starter system under the same maker, from record player to speaker.
  • A returns window of 30 days makes a turntable purchase easy to reverse.
  • Delivery is free, with the free delivery threshold listed as $0.
  • The Zen outdoor solar speaker carries an IP65 rating, so outdoor listening is covered.

Cons

  • Noise cancelling is not offered, so portable kit has no quiet mode on a commute.
  • The base warranty is 1 years, shorter than the multi-year cover common in hi-fi.
  • Battery life of 22 hours falls short of the site median of 40.
  • Victrola ships in US only, so buyers outside that market need another shop.

Who it suits

  • Record buyers who want a turntable and speakers from the same maker.
  • US shoppers who want portable speakers from $59.99 with free delivery.
  • Outdoor listeners drawn to the IP65 Zen outdoor solar speaker.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Headphone and earbud buyers: JBL and Edifier list both, while the Victrola range of turntables, speakers and portable speakers does not.
  • Home cinema shoppers: Edifier and JBL list soundbars, and no soundbar sits in the Victrola turntables, speakers and portable speakers range.
  • Travellers who want noise cancelling on portable kit, since Victrola does not offer it and JBL's headphones, earbuds and speakers range is the headphone and earbud option in this set.

How it compares on our data

Victrola sits near the middle of the field on entry price, placing 33 of 64 brands in this comparison. Warranty length sits a little higher at 29 of 56. Battery hours is the weak point, where Victrola lands 49 of 61, well down the ranking of the brands measured on that figure.

Core features

Noise cancelling is not offered anywhere in the range, so there is no quiet mode for travel or shared rooms. Battery life on the outdoor speaker line runs 22 hours, and the base warranty is 1 years. Multiroom is supported, so speakers from the range can be grouped to play together across a home.

The company behind it

Victrola is operated by Innovative Technology Electronics, LLC, based in the United States and trading since 1906. Buyers reach the company through email, phone and help centre, so help runs by phone as well as in writing, rather than by email alone. The name has a long history in recorded sound, and the shop around it is a focused speaker and turntable range.

Frequently asked questions

What does it cost to start buying from Victrola?+

Portable Bluetooth speakers start at $59.99, which is the low entry point to the range. Victrola is a retailer rather than a subscription service, so there is no monthly charge, no introductory rate and nothing that renews later. The turntables, speakers and portable speakers catalogue means a starter record player and a starter pair of speakers both come from the same shop.

What warranty comes with a Victrola purchase?+

The standard cover is 1 years, and an extended warranty is offered for anyone who plans to keep a turntable for a long time. On this comparison Victrola places 29 of 56 brands on warranty length, a little above the middle of the field rather than at the top of it.

How long do I have to return something?+

Returns run 30 days, which is long enough to put a turntable together, play records and change your mind. A return or a warranty claim goes through email, phone and help centre, so a question can be asked by phone as well as by email. Buyers who take the extended warranty keep the same return window.

Which countries does Victrola ship to?+

Victrola ships in US only, and the company itself is based in the United States. Delivery is free, with the free delivery threshold listed as $0, so nothing extra is added at checkout. Shoppers living outside that market are not covered by this store's shipping terms.

How long do the portable and outdoor speakers last?+

The outdoor speaker line runs 22 hours, and the Zen outdoor solar speaker carries an IP65 rating for use outside. That battery figure sits under the site median of 40 hours for speakers, so a long day at the park or the beach may call for a top-up.

Can I run several Victrola speakers around the house?+

Multiroom is supported, so speakers from the range can be grouped to play together across a home. The turntables, speakers and portable speakers catalogue covers turntables as well as speakers and portable speakers, which suits a record player in one room and portable speakers in another. Noise cancelling is not offered, so there is no quiet mode for travel.

Does Victrola sell refurbished equipment?+

The store's audio and refurbished list shows audio and refurbished categories side by side, so used turntables and speakers are sold from the same shop as new ones. The returns window is 30 days and the base warranty is 1 years, so both new and refurbished buys are covered by the same published terms.

Who is behind the Victrola store?+

The shop is operated by Innovative Technology Electronics, LLC, based in the United States and trading since 1906. Buyers reach the company through email, phone and help centre, so phone and email are both open rather than email alone. It is a long-established name in recorded sound with a focused speaker shop attached.

How does Victrola compare with JBL or Edifier?+

Victrola's turntables, speakers and portable speakers range is built around records and speakers. JBL lists headphones, earbuds and speakers, and Edifier lists headphones, earbuds and speakers, so both cover soundbars, hi-fi and headphones that sit outside Victrola. Skullcandy keeps to headphones, earbuds and speakers and leaves turntables to other brands.
